"At the helm of Grignon from May 1941 to April 1943, Eugène Vandervynckt tried to protect the institution and its occupants to the very end. In particular, he tried to avoid the STO (Obligatory Labor Service) for students, and to preserve Grignon's resources (crops, herds, etc.) threatened by the occupying forces. In early 1943, he joined the Prosper network."
